Deputies Arrest 1, Search for 2 Others After Chase on I-26

A 52-year-old man fled from deputies Wednesday afternoon after they tried to initiate a traffic stop near Irmo, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrested one man and are searching for two others after an 18-mile chase on Interstate 26 Wednesday afternoon. 

Michael Anthony Simons, 52, is charged with driving under suspension, failure to stop for a blue light and possession of stolen goods, a spokesperson for the Richland County Sheriff's Department said. 

Simons was the driver of an SUV that fled from deputies after they tried to stop him at Broad River and Kennerly roads near Irmo, deputies say. An 18-mile pursuit on I-26 ensued.

The chase ended when the vehicle Simons was driving ran off I-26 at mile marker 119 in Lexington County, deputies say. Simons and two other people got out of the vehicle and ran. 

Deputies later arrested Simons. They are still looking for the two other people.
