Deputies Charge Man in Burglary Near Irmo

Ian Arthaniel Harris, 38, is charged with second-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into his former place of employment.

Lexington County deputies arrested a Columbia man accused of breaking into a business near Irmo.

Ian Arthaniel Harris, 38, is charged with second-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into Two Men and a Truck moving service located on Rockland Road on Feb. 2, the sheriff’s department said.

According to an arrest warrant, around 9:30 p.m. Harris allegedly forced open the rear door of the business by using a cinder block to break the handle and stole seven folders that contained paperwork and blank checks that were issued on the business bank account.

Harris is a former employee. He was fired from his job about a month ago for misconduct, a sheriff’s department news release said.

One of the deputies, who responded to a burglar alarm shortly after the break-in, saw him running in woods about 100 yards from the Rockland Road business.

Harris stopped running when he saw the deputy get out of his patrol car.              

Deputies recovered the seven folders that had been reported stolen from the business in the woods, the release said.   

Harris is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
