Someone broke into five cars in the neighborhood Friday night.

Deputies are investigating a series of car break-ins that happened Friday in the Coldstream subdivision in Irmo.

Laptops, bookbags and wallets were stolen from five cars in the neighborhood, according to an incident report from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

A deputy responded to a vandalism call around just before 8 p.m. on Dinton Road, according to the report. The rear driver window of a Nissan Xterra was shattered, but the owner said nothing was missing.

While talking to the owner of the Xterra, the deputy was dispatched to Wilton Hill Road, according to the report. Someone had smashed the passenger-side window of a Nissan Frontier and stolen a JVC TV/stereo valued at $400. There was also extensive damage to the dashboard in the SUV.

Shortly after leaving, the deputy was called to Dinton Court, according to the report. A woman told the deputy she found a brown wallet while walking her dog around 9:15 p.m.

The deputy was later called to Wilton Hill Road again, according to the report. The owner of a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 said he left his truck unlocked and his brown wallet, black Northface bookbag and a silver Dell laptop were missing. The items were valued at $1,065.

The deputy determined that the brown wallet that was found belonged to the owner of the Dodge Ram and returned it, according to the report. The owner's driver's license was missing.

While leaving, the deputy received another complaint about larceny from two more cars on Dinton Road, according to the report. The owner of the cars said that the driver-side windows on his 2002 Cadillac Escalade and his 2001 GMC Sonoma were shattered.

There were also pry marks on the side of the windows, according to the report. The damage to the cars was estimated at $800 each.

An HP laptop valued at $500 was also missing from the Sonoma, according to the report.

One of the victims also reported work documents missing, but they were later found in the front yard of a house on Wilton Hill Road.

The break-ins are under investigation, a sheriff's department spokesperson said. Detectives don't have any suspects in the case yet.
