Motorcycle riders donated more than $6,000 during the Lexington County Sheriff's Department's fifth annual ride to benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.
Sgt. David Amick, who supervises the Chapin Patrol District, coordinated the motorcycle benefit ride. The event featured 135 motorcycle riders riding in areas near Lake Murray.
Honor Flight provides airline and ground transportation for World War II military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C., Sheriff James Metts said. Amick previously served in the U.S. Navy.
“As a military veteran, David recognizes the importance of honoring persons who have defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” Metts said. “Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that have been made by men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces.”
The sheriff also thanked the following businesses who participated in the event: S&S Garage, Caughman’s Meat’n Place, Boland’s True Value, Keen Roofing, Wicker and Associates, Inc., Rush Towing, Chapin Collision and Elledge Automotive.
