Update: Deputies Locate Armed Suicidal Man
The Newberry County Sheriff's Office is searching for the man, who they say is armed with a handgun.
Update, 12:10 p.m.: An armed suicidal man, identified as Joseph E. "Joe" Derrick, 40, of Chapin is in custody, according to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.
No one was harmed.
Original story, 10:30 a.m.: Deputies are searching for an armed suicidal man in the woods near Chapin, according to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.

The man identified as Joseph E. "Joe" Derrick, 40, of Chapin, has a handgun and is in the woods near 1796 Beagle Run Raod which is between Chapin and Little Mountain, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to a call about a man in the woods with a handgun, according to the sheriff's office. When they arrived, they realized the man was suicidal.

The man came out of the woods, but when he saw deputies he ran back into the woods, according to the sheriff's office.
A manhunt is underway and EMS is on standby.
Derrick was wearing a black and white stripe shirt, brown pants and brown shoes.
The sheriff 's office is advising anyone who sees the man not to make contact and to call 911.
