Lexington-Richland School District Five middle and high school dance teams participating in a recent statewide summer competition brought home top honors.

Chapin Middle, Chapin High, Dutch Fork Middle and Dutch Fork High teams shined at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) Summer Dance Camp contest at Lander University in July. Chapin Middle and Chapin High School teams took first place in their divisions, while Dutch Fork Middle’s group placed 2nd.

The Dutch Fork High Dazzlers were big winners this year, garnering multiple awards including a first place trophy for home routine and a superior trophy for having a perfect score for routines. All seven seniors also were named All-American dancers, and the team was given the Leadership award which is voted on by all other teams participating at UDA.

“It’s a huge win for our district, each of us with strong showings in the competition," Dazzler’s Head Dance Coach Ginny Haynes said. "For my (DFHS) team, the win is a huge confidence builder. A lot of our dancers do not take dance outside of our school, so we are starting from the basics on a varsity level. And that says a lot. We’re very proud of our dancers and what this means for the upcoming year.”
