District 5 Elementary School Registration Dates
Schools will hold days for parents and students to meet teachers, pick up schedules, order yearbooks, pay fees and fill out paperwork before school starts.

The first day of school for students is Aug. 21.
Before you get started, parents and students can pick up class schedules, pay school fees, meet their new teacher or fill out important paperwork.
Students attending District 5 schools are required to show three proofs of residency prior to the first day of school.

The following documents should be taken to your child's zoned school:
- One of the following: Property tax bill for the permanent residence, rental lease (complete copy, listing all occupants) or real estate closing documents (where applicable)
- Two of the following: Vehicle tax registration, voter registration card, electric bill, water/sewer bill, telephone bill, or cable/satellite bill
To register for kindergarten, your child must be age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2012.

Parents should bring the following to their zoned elementary school:
- Your child's legal birth certificate
- A current South Carolina Certificate of Immunization, or a South Carolina Certificate of Medical or Religious Exemption
- A property tax receipt or a rental lease showing all occupants
- Two utility bills showing your correct home address
A driver’s license or acceptable photo ID with the correct address is also need for registration and proof of residency.

School hours: 7:50 a.m.-2:40 p.m.
Aug. 13: Back to School Blitz, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 4-6 p.m.
Aug. 15: Meet Your Teacher, 4:30-5:15 p.m. (last name A-L) and 6:15-7 p.m. (last name M-Z)
Aug. 21: First day of school for students
Aug. 27: Curriculum Night for 3rd and 4th Grades, 6-7 p.m.
Aug. 29: Curriculum Night for 1st and 2nd grades, 6-7 p.m.
Aug. 30: Curriculum Night for Kindergarten and 5th grade, 6-7 p.m.
Sept. 3: Labor Day Holiday, all schools and offices closed
Chapin Elementary (PreK-5)
School hours: 7:40 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Aug. 13: Eaglet Extravaganza for all students (pay fees, order yearbooks and t-shirts, get teacher assignment), 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Aug. 14: Class rolls posted on front door, 4 p.m.
Aug. 15: New Student Orientation, 3 p.m.; Meet the Teacher, 4-7 p.m.; Curriculum Night for 1st-5th, 4-7 p.m.
Aug. 16: Kindergarten orientation (parents only), 6 p.m.
Aug. 21: First day of school for students in first through fifth grades (doors open at 7:15 a.m.); Kindergarten students will be notified if they attend Aug. 21 or Aug. 22

Aug. 16: Stinger StartUp, (This is not a drop-in. Families must attend a very important orientation meeting in our cafeteria covering procedures for our new campus to receive a pass that will allow entrance to the gym to participate in Stinger StartUp:
- Last name starts in letters G-0: 4 p.m., cafeteria
- Last name starts in letters A-F: 5 p.m., cafeteria
- Last names starts in letters P-Z and anyone who cannot make their assigned time: 6 p.m., cafeteria

River Springs Elementary (K-5)
School hours: 7:50 a.m.-2:40 p.m.
Aug. 15: Kindergarten Only Back to School Bash, 2-3 p.m.
Parents take kindergarten children to classrooms, where they remain with teachers while parents attend a meeting in the theater. At 2:30 p.m., teachers will bring students to theater to meet their parents. Families can then go to the cafeteria to find bus information, register for after school care, purchase spirit wear and join the PTO.
Aug. 15: New Student Orientation for grades 1-5, 3:45-4:15 p.m., New students will learn all about River Springs and hear information from our PTO.
Aug. 15: Back to School Bash for grades 1-5, 4-6 p.m., students will meet their new teachers, pay school fees, complete school forms, and have a chance to visit with PTO.
Aug. 21: First day of school for students in grades 1-5 and selected Kindergarten students; Tissues and Tears in the Library, 7:30-8:30 a.m. (for parents with first-day jitters)
Aug. 22: First day for selected Kindergarten students (full day and lunch served), Tissues and Tears in the Library from 7:30-8:30 a.m. (for parents with first-day jitters)
