District 5 Foundation to Hold Community Celebration

Foundation to auction golf packages, gift baskets, catered food specials and more

The District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence invites the public and supporters of Lexington-Richland 5 to its first Community Celebration featuring a silent and live auction on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

The celebration will be held at the , 5605 Bush River Rd., Columbia. Tickets are $25 and includes refreshments. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to the foundation's initiatives.

The foundation supports schools in District 5 by raising funds for innovative programs, initiatives and technology. One of those initiatives is the Backpack Program, which provides students with backpacks filled with food to take home during the weekend.

The program, through Harvest Hope Food Bank, helps feed children with nutritious food to last them over the weekend.

Paula Hite, president of the foundation, said the organization is trying to raise funds to sponsor 25 students this school year.

The foundation is asking for a minimum of $5.

Hite said the foundation partnered with Harvest Hope after learning that some of the district's students don't have enough food during the weekend.
