District 5 Middle, High School Bands Receive Top Award
Six middle and high school bands received the Outstanding Performance Award from the S.C. Band Directors Association.

All six of Lexington-Richland School District Five’s qualifying middle and high school bands have received this year’s Outstanding Performance Award by the South Carolina Band Directors Association, the group’s highest honor.
Chapin High, Dutch Fork High and Irmo High all received Outstanding Performance Awards. The district’s three qualifying middle schools – Chapin Middle, Dutch Fork Middle, and Irmo Middle – also got the top honor. CrossRoads Middle, which has only 6th graders and can not compete in all-state and all-region competitions, does not qualify for the award.
Bands qualify for the Outstanding Performance Award by accumulating points at SCBDA sponsored events throughout the year. The awards are presented annually to programs statewide in recognition of Superior Performance in Marching, Concert, All-State, and Solo & Ensemble. Statewide, 31 middle schools and 37 high schools were given the award.
