District 5 Offers Free Lunch for Students During Summer

The Seamless Summer Food Service Program runs through August 1.

Students in Lexington-Richland School District Five can participate in a summer meal program aimed at providing meals to children in need.

The district’s Seamless Summer Food Service Program began on June 10 and will be available through August 1 at three sites: Harbison West Elementary, Irmo Elementary and Dutch Fork Elementary.

There is no fee, and the program is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12.

“The summer months can be especially hard for families who struggle to put food on the table,” District Student Nutrition Director Todd Bedenbaugh said. “District Five is committed to serving families and our community, and this program is designed to help our neediest children by providing them with access to healthy meals during the summer.”

Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Changes may occur to the sites without notice. The schools will be closed July 4 and 5.
