Here's a roundup of some of the reports and actions taken at Monday night's Lexington-Richland 5 board meeting.

 

Superintendent's report

  • Dr. Stephen Hefner briefly discussed the 2011 School Report Card for the district and its schools. .
  • Hefner provided an update on the plan. Hefner said the projects outlined in the plan are the "big pieces" that the district hopes to accomplish in the next four years. He said there are other areas that wasn't addressed in the plan and are important. He said he hopes the district will be able to include those items in the future as the district looks to address its facilities. An example is the expansion of Chapin Elementary School. Hefner said even after the renovations and expansion at Chapin High School there would still be some additional needs at the school that would need to be reviewed.

  • The board received an update on the cost of legal appeals concerning Chapin High School and monthly financial reports from October.

 

Action items

The board approved the following items:

  • A change order to allow for the installation of a water line for the new high school and CATE center.
  • Second reading of proposed additions and revisions to board policies "I". Several policies fall under section "I" including policy , which raised concerns last month about the Pledge of Allegiance. The board also approved first reading of proposed revisions to board policies "J".
  • The board approved naming the CATE center the Center for Advanced Technical Studies.
  • Revisions to the 2011-12 school board meeting schedule. Meetings scheduled to be held at the district office will now be held at the district's middle schools.

The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Dutch Fork Elementary School, 7900 Broad River Road.
