Dr. Christina Melton Named District 5's Chief Instructional Officer
Melton will replace Helen Anderson who is retiring from the district in August.

Veteran educator Dr. Christina Melton has been hired as the new Chief Instructional Officer for Lexington-Richland School District 5.
Prior to taking the new post, Dr. Melton served as the district’s Director of Elementary Education, where she participated in system-wide efforts to boost student achievement and coordinated professional development for teachers. She currently serves as chair of the South Carolina Council on Accreditation and School Improvement for the South Carolina Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Melton is also on the board of directors for the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Her awards and recognitions include: the 2012 Superintendent’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and the 2012 Outstanding Contributions in Education Award by the South Carolina Association of School Psychologists. She was also named South Carolina Elementary Principal of the Year for 2011-2012.

As Chief Instructional Officer for District 5, Dr. Melton will supervise the implementation and evaluation of staff development programs and ensure district compliance with state standards, laws and regulations.
“District Five has a proud tradition of academic excellence,” Dr. Melton said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work with our teachers, principals, district leaders, school board, and community. We will continue to prepare students for college and career readiness while maintaining our focus on teaching, learning, and professional development.”

District Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner said: “Dr. Melton has been an asset to the district. Under her leadership, the district has focused on student achievement and growing our teachers’ professional skill. We look forward to having her in this important role.”
