Junior Daniel Ott will intern at Harvard University's cancer research center for the summer.
A Lexington-Richland School District Five Biomedical Science student has received a highly competitive internship at Harvard University for the summer in the school’s cancer research center.
Daniel Ott will participate in the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) program at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. He is a junior at Dutch Fork High School and studies Biomedical Science at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies (The Center).
“Daniel’s internship epitomizes the result of the collaboration between Dutch Fork and the Center’s Biomedical Science program,” said Julie Krusen, a Biomedical Science teacher at The Center. “We’re excited about this opportunity for Daniel and look forward to his work in the future.”

The CURE program introduces high school and college students to the world of cancer research by placing them in real research settings. Participants work on a research project, attend scientific research and professional development seminars, prepare abstract and final presentations and take part in other activities that help develop their critical thinking, research and presentation skills.
A select group of promising students are chosen each year for the program, allowing them to expand and extend their interest in basic, clinical, and population science cancer research or nursing research.
