Dutch Fork Middle Students Tour Washington, DC
Eighth-grade students visited the White House, the U.S. Supreme Court and more.
Eighth-grade students at Dutch Fork Middle School along with more than 40 parents and teachers visited the nation’s capital March 27-29 as part of an annual trip designed to give students real-life lessons on government and other subjects.
Dutch Fork Middle has been taking its 8th grade class to Washington, D.C. since 2006.
“It was one of the best trips we’ve ever had,” Dutch Fork Middle teacher Kristi Grooms said. “The students saw everything there is to see in our nation’s capital, learned a lot and some were even inspired to pursue careers in law, the military, politics and public service. They represented Dutch Fork Middle and District Five incredibly well.”

During the trip, students visited the grounds of the White House and U.S. Supreme Court. They also were present during the “Changing of the Guard” ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virgina.
District Five Chief Instructional Officer Helen Anderson said, “Lessons are not just confined to the walls of our classrooms. Trips like these are important because they inspire our students to pursue top careers and allow them to apply the lessons they’ve learn in the classroom to the real world.”
