Five Things: Grand Opening, Prayer Breakfast and the Okra Strut

A variety of events are scheduled for the week and open to the public

There are many events, meetings and activities planned for the week. Here are just five events we think you would be interested in.

  • Irmo-Seven Oaks Patch has officially launched and we’re inviting the public to meet the Patch team. There will be a grand opening for Irmo-Seven Oaks Patch at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, 1248 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo. A ribbon cutting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
  • Reps. Chip Huggins and Nathan Ballentine invites the public to the 6th Annual Irmo Community Prayer Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, 530 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia. A light breakfast is available at 7:30 a.m. and the program starts at 8 a.m. The prayer breakfast is free to the public, but with limited seating.   • The 38th Annual Okra Strut Festival is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the Irmo Village Shopping Center, 7571 St. Andrews Rd., Irmo. The two-day event starts off with a street dance featuring the Coastal Breeze Band and the O'Kaysions from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the First Citizens parade starts at 9 a.m. Saturday's event also includes games, food, dancing, arts and crafts, and more. For more information, visit 2011 Okra Strut Festival.
  • The Irmo Town Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Building, 7300 Woodrow St., Irmo.
  • The Palmetto Artist Series presents GLAD at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia. Tickets are $12. For more information, call (803) 732-2273 ext. 210
