Former Chapin High Teacher Who Stomped Flag Gets $85,000 Settlement

Scott Compton and Lexington-Richland 5 reached a settlement agreement.

Lexington-Richland 5 paid a former Chapin High teacher who stomped on a U.S. flag in his classroom an $85,000 settlement to avoid a legal challenge, according to a report in The State.

Scott Compton, who resigned in March, will receive the payment on top of his salary, which will be paid through June 7, even though he has not taught since December, according to The State.

Before he resigned, Compton told the district that he was planning to file a complaint in federal court, according to The State. The district offered him the $85,000 as long as he would agree not to pursue a legal challenge.
