Update: Demus, Richardson Win Silver Medals in London

Update, 6:12 p.m.: Former University of South Carolina track athletes Lashinda Demus and Jason Richardson won silver medals at the Olympics in London.

Demus finished the final women's 400-meter hurdles in second place behind Antyukh Natalya of Russia with a time of 52.77 — just .07 of a second behind Natalya.

Richardson won a silver medal in the men's 110-meter hurdles, coming in second to fellow American Aries Merritt.

Richardson finished with a time of 13.04 in his first Olympic Games. 

Original, 1:46 p.m.: Two former University of South Carolina Gamecoks are going for gold today at the Olympics Games in London.

Lashinda Demus and Jason Richardson have advanced in their respective hurdling events — Demus competes in the final round of the women's 400-meter hurdles and Richardson will run in the semifinals for men's 110-meter hurdles. 

Demus will run at 3:45 p.m. today for a chance to win a gold medal. 

Richardson will run in the semifinals which start at 2:15 p.m. If he qualifies for the finals, Richardson will run again at 4:15 p.m.

Demus, who is the American record holder in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.47, ran for USC from 2002-2004.

The 29-year-old competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, but didn't make the finals.

Richardson, 26, is also a world champion in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.16. This is Richardson's first Olympics. He ran for USC from 2005-2009.

Both Demus and Richardson won gold at the 2011 World Championship in Daegu, Korea.
