Four Arrested in Last Week's Fatal Shooting of Chapin Man

Citizens' information helped Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives with case

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives have arrested four people they say went to the home of a 50-year-old man, who was shot and killed, with the intent to rob him, stealing marijuana and cash.

The following were were arrested on Friday in connection with the killing of , who was shot and killed on Oct. 21 at his home on Meadowlark Road near Chapin:

Jasmine Janell Bowers, 20, of 308 Meadowlark Road, Little Mountain

Tyrome Howard Brennan, 19, of 239 Boulters Lock Road, Lot 39, Irmo

Jermaine Caughman, 19, of 2037 Chapin Road, Chapin

Breon Jacoby Mayers, 20, of 115 Skylark Lane, Chapin

Bowers, Brennan, Caughman and Mayers each were arrested on charges of murder, first-degree burglary, armed robbery and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to a release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

On Friday, all four are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings on the murder charge, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said.

Arrest warrants allege that on Oct. 21 Bowers, Brennan, Caughman and Mayers entered Cannon’s home at 304 Meadowlark Drive, Little Mountain, with the intent to steal one pound of marijuana and cash from the home, Metts said.

Cannon was shot twice in his upper torso with a 9-mm handgun and died at home, according to the release.

Bowers, who is the niece of Cannon’s live-in girlfriend, initially entered Cannon’s home by herself, Metts said.

Dectectives say Bowers later signaled for Brennan, Caughman and Mayers, who were hiding in woods near Cannon’s home, to enter the residence in order to rob Cannon of drugs and cash.

Citizens provided information that helped detectives develop probable cause to obtain arrest warrants for Bowers, Brennan, Caughman and Mayers, Metts said.

Cannon was acquainted with Bowers, Brennan, Caughman and Mayers, according to the release.
