Grant Enables Mammograms for Women in Need

In 2012, the grant allowed for more than 1,300 mammograms to women in need.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Best Chance Network will get $76,000 to provide mammograms to women in poverty, a release stated.

The money will come from the lowcountry affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Early detection of breast cancer results in a 98 percent five-year survival rate and an average cost savings of close to $40,000, the release stated. In 2012, Best Chance Network identified 75 women with breast cancer.
