Guilty Pleas Entered in Federal Illegal Gambling Case

Three men pleaded guilty in the case of a Midlands-area illegal sports bookie operation that has ties to an Irmo man accused of killing his wife and friend.

Three men have pleaded guilty to running an illegal gambling operation in the Midlands, The State reports.

Lanny Ray Gunter II,  Harry Benenhaley and Ronald Dale Spence were in federal court Wednesday to enter their guilty pleas

According to an Associated Press report, prosecuters say Gunter loaned $5,000 to Parker to start his own bookie business.

The three face up to five years in prison. Their next appearance in court is scheduled for January.
