Hearing Set in District 5 Residency Dispute

The hearing, which is open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. on February 15 at the district office located at 1020 Dutch Fork Road in Irmo.

Retired Circut Court Judge Thomas Cooper has scheduled a hearing for the dispute over Lexington-Richland 5 board member Kim Murphy's residency.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. on February 15 at the district office located at 1020 Dutch Fork Road in Irmo, according to a District 5 news release.

The hearing is open to the public.

Cooper is charged with hearing the dispute over whether Murphy resides in Richland or Lexington counties.

Bobby Bowers, director of the Office of Research and Statistics at the State Budget and Control Board, said Murphy's property is located in Lexington County.

Murphy said her property is split between both counties, but she receives services from Richland County. 

Murphy said she has lived at her Chapin home for 12 years and has provided copies of receipts for paid property taxes in Richland County and her voter registration card.

She was elected to serve the Richland County portion of Lexington-Richland 5 in 2010.
