Irmo Community Market to Start in May

The market, which will be located on Carlisle Street near the Irmo Town Park, will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays beginning in May and ending in October.

The Town of Irmo has partnered with Brown Box Veggies, a bi-weekly delivery service of fresh fruits and vegetables, to establish a community market in Irmo.

Irmo Town Council members unanimously approved a policy Tuesday night for the market that will be held on the first and third Saturdays beginning in May and ending in October.

The market will feature local vendors — farmers, artisans/crafters, non-profit groups and sellers of prepared/processed foods — and possibly entertainment from local musicians and schools, yoga sessions for kids and exercise classes.

Organizers say they already have 19 vendors who are willing to participate. The group is aiming for 25 vendors, with one of those vendors being a local charity.

Vendors must pay a $25 fee per Saturday to participate. Charitable organizations will not have to pay a fee.
