Irmo Council Calls Special Meeting on Vacant Seat, Election Results

Meeting starts at 4 p.m. today

Validation of Irmo Mayor Hardy King's vacant council seat is one of three items on an agenda for a special called meeting at 4 p.m. today.

, a local resident accused King of violating state law because he didn't give a resignation letter before swearing in as mayor.

King told Patch after Tuesday's meeting a resignation letter wasn't necessary for because his seat was automatically vacant once he was sworn in as mayor.

Council members also will hear a report from Dean Crepes, director of the Lexington County Election Commission, on the election results from November's race and confirm the election of mayor pro-tem.
