Irmo Council Meets to Review Revised Design for Park

Irmo Town Council will meet on Thursday to discuss design of new park.

Irmo residents will have another chance to voice their opinions and concerns about the town's new park at a special meeting on Thursday.

Council members will receive an update from Morgan Grimball-Cotterill & Associates on the preliminary plans for the 14-acre park located on Eastview Drive

At council's last meeting in August, members viewed the first draft of the design for the park, which will be the home of the Okra Strut Festival.

The size of the buffer between the park and residential properties was one of several complaints from residents at the council's August meeting.

Some residents want a natural buffer of trees or shrubs of at least 150 feet from their property lines.

Council voted 3-2 in favor of a 30-foot buffer.

That could change once council reviews the new proposed design.

The buffer size, safety, water runoff and the cost for maintaining the park were some highlights that Watson hoped council would address.

The special meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Municipal Building at 7300 Woodrow Street.

Council will first vote on a resolution concerning the support of the Airport Connector, also known as the John N. Hardee Expressway.
