Irmo DMV Now Open to Public After Temporary Closure
The Irmo branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles has reopened after a lightning strike causing smoke in the building forced the facility to close temporarily.

The Irmo branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles is open after the facility was closed this morning after lightning struck the building causing smoke to emit from the building, DMV spokeswoman Beth Parks said.
Brick Lewis, spokesman for the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, said firefighters were dispatched to the DMV at 1016 Broadstone Road this morning for an electrical burn or smell at the facility.
All units have since cleared the scene, Lewis said.

Parks said this was the first time the building had been struck by lightning.
