Irmo, Dutch Fork Basketball Ranks Among Top Teams Nationally in USA Today Poll

Dutch Fork's girls basketball team is No. 9 in the nation, while Irmo High's boys team is No. 23.

Basketball teams from Dutch Fork and Irmo high schools are ranked No. 9 and No. 23, respectively, in the nation, according to the USA Today Super 25 Basketball rankings.

Dutch Fork's girls team (21-0) is No. 9 out of the 25 teams ranked across the country. 

Irmo's boys team (21-0) earns the No. 23 spot in the nation.

Both teams are lead by student athletes recently nominated to play in the McDonald's All-American games. 

Dutch Fork's Alaina Coates and Irmo's Justin McKie are two of 20 athletes in the state to be considered to play in the 2013 games scheduled for April 3 at Chicago's United Center.

Both Coates and McKie will play for the University of South Carolina after graduation. 

The national rankings are as of January 30. The next ranking will be published February 5. 

In South Carolina, both teams are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, according to the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association Top 10 polls.
