Irmo, Dutch Fork Basketball Teams Honored with Proclamations
Mayor Hardy King gave official proclamations to the Dutch Fork High girls' and Irmo High boys' basketball teams for winning the state title games.
Lexington-Richland District 5’s state championship basketball teams received proclamations and honors Wednesday, during a Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce event.
Irmo Mayor Hardy King gave official proclamations to the Dutch Fork High girls’ and Irmo High boys’ teams. They also were presented with certificates of achievement by the Chamber.
“We are blessed in our community not only with great academics, but great athletic achievements too,” said Chamber President and CEO Tiffany Boyce. “The business community is honored to recognize both of these championship teams.”

District Superintendent Stephen Hefner said, “We are very proud of what these two teams have accomplished and congratulate the coaches and the players on their success. They represent the best that our district and our country have to offer.”
The Dutch Fork girls’ team finished the season undefeated (29-0) to claim their second consecutive state title. Led by Coach Faye Norris, the team is ranked 6th in a poll by USA TODAY High School Sports.

The Yellow Jackets are ranked 15th for boys in the same poll. This year’s championship was the second state title for the Yellow Jackets (29-0) in three years and the fifth in coach Tim Whipple's 32 years at the school. The victory capped Irmo's first boys basketball undefeated season.
