Irmo High Principal to Resign Due to Health

Creig Tyler, former Lexington High School principal, will serve as interim principal at Irmo High School.

Irmo High School principal Rob Weinkle has said he is resigning as the head of the school effective Dec. 31, Lexington-Richland 5 officials announced Wednesday. 

Weinkle has served as principal of Irmo High since July 2010. 

District officials say Weinkle has resigned "so he can address some serious health concerns."

Superintendent Stephen Hefner said in a release that Weinkle’s leadership will be missed at Irmo High School.

“We are truly grateful to Rob Weinkle, he will always be part of the Lexington–Richland 5 family.  He has done a wonderful job leading Irmo High. He will be in our thoughts and prayers.”

Creig Tyler, former principal of Lexington High School, will serve as the school's interim principal for the remainder of the school year, according to a news release.

Tyler recently retired after serving 10 years as Lexington High's principal. 

Prior to his tenure as principal of Lexington High, Tyler served at Lugoff-Elgin  High School and has previously taught and coached at Irmo High.

Hefner said, “I have the utmost confidence in Creig Tyler. We are fortunate to find someone with his experience, energy and talent in the middle of a school year.  I know the teachers, students and parents will support Creig as he leads Irmo High."

A permanent principal for Irmo High will be hired this summer, the release said.
