Irmo Native Earns 'World's Fastest Amputee' Title

Dutch Fork High graduate won gold in 100m race at Paralympic World Championships

Jerome Singleton, an Irmo native and a 2004 Dutch Fork High School graduate, is the world's fastest amputee, according to a report from WIS-TV.

At this year's International Paralympic Comittee Athletics (IPC) World Championships in January, Singleton won a gold medal and is the 100m T44 world champion having finished with a time of 11.34 narrowly beating former champion Oscar Pistorius of South Africa.

This was all done on one leg.

According to a report from usparalympics.org, Singleton is the first American male amputee to win gold in the 100m race or Paralympic Games since 2004.

WIS-TV reports that Singleton is in the Upstate being fitted for a new competition leg.
