Irmo Police Charged Lexington Man with DUI, Child Endangerment

A 27-year-old man was arrested on April 21 for driving under the influence with a 4-year-old child in the vehicle.

Irmo Police charged a Lexington man with driving under the influence and child endangerment after a traffic safety stop on Lake Murray Boulevard.

Richard Chase Rodgers, 27, of Lexington, was arrested on April 21 during a traffic safety checkpoint on the 800 block of Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo.

When the officer requested to see Rodgers driver's license, he said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage from the driver's window and noticed Rodgers' eyes looked "bloodshot and glassy," according to an incident report.

A 4-year-old child and a 27-year-old Irmo woman were also in the vehicle. 

When asked how many drinks he had, Rodgers told the officer he had a couple of beers at his parents' house.

The officer arrested Rodgers after he failed a series of sobriety tests.

Rodgers was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
