Irmo Police Identify Suspect in Car Chase

Officers are searching for Quintin Lafayette Garrett of Richcreek Road in Columbia after he led police on a through two counties.

The Irmo Police Department has issued arrest warrants for a man who led officers on a chase through Lexington and Richland counties Tuesday morning.

Quintin Lafayette Garrett of Richcreek Road in Columbia has been identified as the man accused of leading authorities on a chase after he was stopped by an officer on Lake Murray Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Irmo Police Chief Brian Buck said. 

Garrett faces charges of driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights and seatbelt violation.

Police say Garrett, who was driving a black Mitsubishi Galant, drove away from the traffic stop and led officers on a chase from Lake Murray Boulevard to Broad River Road and Zimalcrest Drive, then to Interstate 26 and I-20 before getting off on SC 277 in Northeast Columbia. 

Buck said Garrett abandoned the car between mile markers 3 and 4.

No one was injured and no vehicles were damaged during the chase, the department said.

Garrett is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.
