Irmo Runner Safe After Boston Marathon Explosions

Amy Bell McDonaugh, a legally blind runner from Irmo, has reported she is safe after explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Amy Bell McDonaugh, a legally blind runner from Irmo, is safe after two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

McDonaugh confirmed with Patch she was safe Monday afternoon.

McDonaugh, who finished the race in 2:52, was less than 2 miles away from the finish line.

The mother of three said she heard sirens and helicopters, but not the explosion itself, and that everything has shut down in the area.

Twenty-one runners from the Midlands were listed as participants in Monday's marathon.
