Irmo Set to Bring Another State Title Home

The boys' state final begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Life Arena.

After 28 consecutive wins, Irmo High will face its final challenge of the season Friday night at the Colonial Life Arena.

Top ranked , last Friday in the Upper State championship at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville and now faces Goose Creek in the Class 4A final.

On Monday, Coach Tim Whipple joined by seniors Justin McKie and Detrek Browning were at the S.C. High School League office in Columbia for the league's annual news conference. (See attached video)

The three and the rest of the team are ready to bring another state title home to Irmo.

"Since we’re undefeated, everyone expects us to win, so we have to win," Browning said.

McKie said, "We have to be ready to step up to the plate ... we have to show leadership. We have to help our guys get mentally focused as well as physically focused. I think we'll be able to do that."

The Yellow Jackets' last state title win was during the 2010-2011 school year against Ridge View.

The boys' state final begins at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Life Arena.
