Irmo Town Council: King, Hoots, Younginer to be Sworn In Tuesday

Hardy King sworn in as mayor, former mayor John Gibbons to be recognized

The swearing-in ceremonies for Hardy King, Irmo's first new mayor in 20 years, and council members Harvey Hoots and Paul Younginer will be held during Irmo Town Council's regular meeting Tuesday night.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Building at 7300 Woodrow Street, following the town's annual tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Town Park located at the corner of Columbia Avenue and Carlise Street. Irmo Elementary School's Superstar Singers will provide entertainment at the tree lighting.

In November, in a race that included former council member Kathy Condom, incumbent Barry Walker Sr. and Suzanne Gooch.

In addition to the swearing-in ceremonies, council will elect a mayor pro-tem and recognized former Mayor John Gibbons for his service.

  • second reading of an ordinance to reduce the filing period from 30 days to 15 days;
  • appointment of standing committees;
  • a call for a special election to fill King's seat;
  • first reading of an ordinance to amend the Irmo Zoning Ordinance concerning temporary signs to add language about drive-thru operations.
