It's Okra Strut Time! Annual Festival Begins Friday

The annual festival starts Friday night in Irmo Town Park.

The 39th annual Irmo Okra Strut Festival kicks off this Friday in the Irmo Town Park.

The two-day festival begins with a street dance from 6 to 11 p.m. 

This year's dance features music from Rob Crosby and Mustang Sally.

Crosby is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m and Mustang Sally is scheduled for 9 p.m.

Don't forget about the okra-eating contest. The contest will be held between the two performances Friday night.

On Saturday, the day starts with the annual parade beginning at 9 a.m. at CrossRoads Middle School and ending at Irmo Elementary School. 

Following the parade, head over to the town's park for food, music, rides and more.

Patch will be at the festival Saturday, so stop by our table for some free Patch swag. 

Road Closures 

According to the Irmo Police Department, the following streets will be closed during the two-day festival:

From 9 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday

  • Columbia Avenue between Childs and Woodrow streets.
  • Carlisle Street between Columbia and Lexington avenues 

From 11 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday

  • Lexington Avenue between Woodrow and Childs streets 
  • Mowers Street 

Saturday from 8:50 a.m. to noon

  • St. Andrews Road between Wescott Road and Lake Murray Boulevard for the Okra Strut Parade. Lake Murray Boulevard will remain OPEN during the parade.
