Smith, a former doctor at Lexington Family Practice on Polo Road, voluntarily surrendered his medical license on Jan. 16, according to records from the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
Smith's decision to temporarily surrender his medical license came 10 days after he was arrested and charged with felony DUI in the death of Raymond A. Geiger, 39, of Irmo.
Police say Smith ran his Land Rover off the road on Jan. 6 and hit Geiger, who was walking on a sidewalk along Lake Murray Boulevard. Geiger was pronounced dead at the scene.
