Local Bands Head to Orangeburg for State Championships

Marching bands from Irmo, Chapin and Dutch Fork high schools will travel to South Carolina State University on Saturday for the 2011 S.C. Band Directors Association (SCBDA) State Marching Band Championships (5A).

The competition will begin at noon Saturday at the university's Oliver C. Dawson Stadium, 300 College Street, Orangeburg.

The bands are scheduled to take the field at the following times:

• Irmo High, 3:15 p.m. (5A Prelims/Finals)

• Chapin High, 5:30 p.m. (Lower State 1A/3A)

• Dutch Fork, 2:45 p.m. (5A Prelims/Finals)

Last Saturday, Chapin High placed fourth in the SCBDA State 3A Championships. Chapin also placed first in the SCBDA Lower State Championships this season.
