Local High School Science Teams Compete in Regional Science Bowl

The regional competition will be held at the University of South Carolina's Aiken campus on February 23.

Students from Irmo, Chapin and Dutch Fork high schools are competing in the regional competition of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s National Science Bowl this month.

Teams of four students each will be faced with tough mathematical problems and tested on their knowledge of a vast number of areas including astronomy, biology, Earth science and physics, according to a news release.

The winners of the regional competition will travel to Washington, D.C. for the finals from April 25-29.

At the national finals, the teams will be tested with more difficult questions and a science challenge. Middle school students would also participate in a car race.

One middle and high school team will win the finals prize.
