Reported earlier

About 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Charles Plumley and Sharpe, who was armed with a .45-caliber handgun, went to the home at 254 Victor Road with the intent to rob the home’s occupants of crack cocaine and money, Metts said.

According to the release, Charles Plumley and Raymond Plumley have regularly purchased crack cocaine at the home.

Charles Plumley and Sharpe, who were wearing masks to conceal their faces, knocked on the front door of the home. Witnesses told detectives that when Leon Justice, 64, opened the door Sharpe shot Justice once in the head with the .45-caliber gun.

The exact circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, Metts said.

Sharpe forced the owner of the Victor Road home at gunpoint to give him crack cocaine and money, Metts said.

Sharpe and Charles Plumley contacted Raymond Plumley and Griffin to help them hide the shooting of Justice, according to the release.

Metts said Griffin and Raymond Plumley later drove Charles Plumley and Sharpe to a motel on S.C. 302 near Cayce, where Griffin attempted to pay for a motel room under a false name.

Detectives say Griffin and Raymond Plumley provided false information when they were questioned about the shooting. Anz also provided false information to detectives when she was questioned.

Metts said Charles Plumley and Sharpe are scheduled to appear in court at 3 p.m. Friday for first-appearance hearings.  During that time, a Lexington County magistrate will advise the two men about the offenses they’re being charged with committing, he said.

Under South Carolina law, a circuit judge would have to conduct bond hearings for Charles Plumley and Sharpe because murder carries a punishment of life in prison, Metts said.

The 11th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office has not yet scheduled bond hearings for the two men.

Anz, Griffin and Raymond Plumley are scheduled to appear in court at 3 p.m. Friday for bond hearings.

Original story: The Lexington County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 64-year-old man who was shot in the head at a home near Gaston Wednesday night.

Detectives say about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Leon W. Justice, of 254 Victor Road, was shot in the head after he answered the front door of the home, according to a press released issued Thursday by the department.

Deputies responded to a call about the shooting at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said.

Justice, who had rented a bedroom for about a year at the Victor Road home, was lying on his back on the floor near the front door. Justice was breathing, but appeared to be unconscious.

The owner of the Victor Road home told deputies she was in the kitchen when she heard someone knock on the front door, Metts said.

She said Justice went to the front door, opened it and shortly after she heard a bang and saw a flash when two men wearing masks covering their faces confronted Justice, he said.

Metts said a neighbor told deputies he saw one of the men run across the front yard of the Victor Road home and get into a truck, which was dark in color and resembling a Cheverolet truck.

Justice was transported to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Metts said.

Detectives are pursuing leads concerning the identities of the two men and additional people who were involved in the shooting. The circumstances of Justice’s death remains under investigation, Metts said.

Detectives also are investigating whether Justice was acquainted with the persons involved in his death.

Anyone with any information about Justice's death or the identities of the persons involved in the shooting is asked to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
