More Than 50 District 5 Students to Play College Sports Next Year

More than 50 student-athletes from Lexington-Richland School District Five have accepted offers to play college sports next school year. 

The students will attend 33 schools nationwide, participating in a variety of sports from football and basketball to cheerleading and wrestling. Athletic scholarship offers for District Five student-athletes came from as near as the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. where Dutch Fork High’s Alaina Coates will play basketball and as far away as Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz. where Irmo High’s Lamar Cloud will play football. 

Irmo High School Athletic Director Bob Hanna said, “I think it is every kid's dream to be able to take their sport to the next level. To do this they realize they must perform in the classroom and on the playing field.” 

Chapin High School Athletic Director Ronnie Wessinger said, “Chapin High is excited and proud of these student-athletes. We thank them for their time, energy and effort while at Chapin High School. We believe that high school athletics helps prepare all student-athletes for college and life by helping them balance in all aspect of their lives.” 

District Five students that will play college sports include:
