Overturned Truck Carrying Explosive Materials Causes Mandatory Evacuations

A mandatory evacuation is in effect for everyone within a ½ mile of Highway 76 and S.C. 560 in Newberry County.

An overturned truck carrying explosive materials has caused part of U.S. Highway 76 near the Kinards community to close, according to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office. 

A madatory evacuation is in effect for everyone within a ½ mile of Highway 76 and S.C. 560. 

The truck is carrying the explosive grade material, amonium nitrate, which is found in fertilizers.

Officials say mototrists should use Interstate 26 to avoid the area.
