Update: Driver Charged in Irmo Pedesterian's Death

Raymond A. Geiger, 39, of Irmo, was walking on the sidewalk when he was struck by a black Land Rover driven by David Lee Smith of Lexington Sunday night.

Update: Irmo Police charged a Lexington man with felony driving under the influence in the death of an Irmo man who was hit and killed while walking on Lake Murray Boulevard, The State reports.

David Lee Smith, 46, was arrested and charged with felony DUI , and is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.

According to the report, Smith was driving a black Land Rover on Lake Murray Boulevard when the vehicle left the raodway and struck Raymond A. Geiger, 39, of Irmo.

Geiger was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

Original story: An Irmo man was struck and killed in a vehicle accident in Irmo Sunday night.

The incident happened at 10:36 p.m. Sunday at 1155 Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo, according to the Lexington County Coroner's Office.

Raymond A. Geiger, 39, of Irmo, was walking on the sidewalk when he was struck by a black in color Land Rover, Coroner Harry Harman said in a release. 

Geiger was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, and the Irmo Police Department, with the assistance of the South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT Team.
