The rainy start to the day didn't dampen the mood at as students across started the first day of school.
Patch visited the school as students were walking in with their parents for the start of the new school year.
The school's principal Dr. Judith Franchini and teachers greated students and their parents as they entered the hallways.

The first day can be filled with happiness, sadness or even worry for both the child and/or parent.
Franchini said the first couple of days are probably harder for the parents than it is for the kids.

"We know they are ready to come to school but its that leaving them that's so difficult. Once that actually "leaving" happens the kids do great and the parents do great once they get home."
Franchini said she's looking forward to the new school year and those moments when children discover new things.
She said it's exciting to see a child discover they can read or for older students figure out a science experiment.
"That's the most exciting thing for any teacher, principal, whomever."
"They carry themselves differently. When that light comes on ... their whole face just shines."
