Rep. Nathan Ballentine Named 2013 Legislator of the Year
The South Carolina School Improvement Council awarded Ballentine with the award at its annual meeting on March 23.

State Rep. Nathan Ballentine, R-Richland, has been presented with the SC School Improvement Council (SC-SIC) Board of Trustees’ Legislator of the Year Award for 2013.
The award was presented Saturday, March 23, during the SC-SIC Annual Meeting in Columbia.
“Rep. Ballentine has consistently demonstrated his support and belief in the work and value of South Carolina’s School Improvement Councils,” said SC-SIC Board of Trustees Chair Ellen M. Still. “Whether it is on the floor of the House, in committee or behind the scenes, he has taken the extra effort to help preserve and strengthen our state’s SICs.”

Elected to the House in 2004, Rep. Ballentine currently serves on the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee. In the current session of the General Assembly, he sponsored a joint resolution of the House and Senate honoring the state’s School Improvement Councils for their 35 years of service to South Carolina, worked with the Office of the Governor to coordinate a proclamation from Governor Nikki Haley declaring March 2013 as “School Improvement Council Month” in South Carolina, and he has continuously supported legislative funding of the SC School Improvement Council.
Professionally, Rep. Ballentine is Vice President of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. A 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina, he is a member of the Lake Murray/Irmo Rotary Club, the Ballentine-Dutch Fork Civic Association, Irmo Chamber of Commerce, Lake Murray Association, the Greater Columbia Association of Realtors, and Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

He previously served on the USC Young Alumni Council, the Leadership Columbia Association, and was a member of the USC Richland/Lexington County Alumni Association.
Rep. Ballentine and his wife, Karen, reside in Chapin with their three children, Sarah Buck, J.C. and Emma.
