Report: Opponents, Supporters Speak on District 5 Residency Dispute

Kim Murphy's questions on school construction costs may have prompted her opponents to examine her residency, according to a report from The State.

Lexington-Richland 5 board member Kim Murphy created a foundation for some in the community to question whether she resided in the county she was elected to serve, according to a report from The State.

Both supporters and opponents say Murphy's questions concerning school construction/renovation costs or finances prompted supporters of the 2008 bond referendum to examine whether she lives in Richland or Lexington counties, the report said.

The dispute over Murphy's residency is being reviewed by retired Circuit Court Judge G. Thomas Cooper Jr. A recommendation to the school board is expected this month.
