Richland County Government: Councilwoman Newton Lends A Hand To Vaccine Drive, Food Giveaway

County Councilwoman Chakisse Newton and S.C. House Rep. Jermaine Johnson are again partnering with Prisma Health for a COVID-19 vaccination drive in Lower Richland.

A food giveaway will also be part of the event, set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins. The event will be in the parking lot behind the school, next to the Richland County Sheriff’s substation.

Prisma Health will administer the Pfizer vaccine to adults and children ages 5 and older who need their first or second dose. Those eligible for a booster shot or third dose can also receive one, per S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines.

No appointment is needed to receive the vaccine, which is free and does not require insurance.

Local nonprofit Carolina for All will provide grocery bags containing produce, meat, canned goods and other food items to assist families facing food insecurity before the holidays. The food is available first come, first served.

While registration is not required, residents are encouraged to sign up online via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/222272451887 to help with planning.
