Westwood High School is pleased to announce that Garrett Knight has been selected as the school’s new athletic director, effective July 1, 2022. Knight is succeeding long-time Athletic Director Jason Powell who is retiring after 10 years at the school.

Knight currently serves as the athletic director at Great Falls High School (GFHS) in Chester County Schools where he recently earned Region II Athletic Director of the Year honors. In addition to his current assignment at GFHS, Knight has served as the assistant athletic director at Lugoff-Elgin High School while teaching Health and Physical Education in Kershaw County Schools. His prior teaching experiences have been at Great Falls High, Lugoff-Elgin High, and North Central Middle School, while also serving as the strength coach, assistant varsity football coach, head varsity boys basketball coach, and numerous other campus duties and responsibilities. Over the span of his emerging career, he has held numerous leadership positions and has a proven track record for organization, planning and communication, program development, and achieving high performance outcomes. “I am deeply committed to continuing the strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence at Westwood," Knight said. "My priority will be to ensure that the experience is truly elite for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the entire Redhawk family. This is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to ushering Westwood athletics into the next chapter in its storied history." Robert Jackson, principal of Westwood said, “I want to thank Coach Powell for his leadership and service to our school. We are excited to welcome Coach Knight, an innovative Knight holds a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of South Carolina, master’s degree in Athletic Management and Administration from the United States Sports Academy, and is pursuing a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. He is married to Kathy Knight, and they have four children.
