In December 2021, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) informed the Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) and Richland School District Two that a grant for the 10 new School Resource Officers had been approved. In January 2022, the Richland County Council approved receipt of the grant.

The total amount of the award is $934,040 and includes salaries, benefits and equipment, including vehicles. SCDPS administers the state funds for the SRO Program. The awarded law
