Riverland Hills Baptist Invites Public to "Run for God"

Riverland Hills Baptist is offering a 12-week program that will "prepare people to be better witnesses for Christ physically, mentally and spiritually."

If you're looking to improve both the spiritual and physical aspect of your life, then Riverland Hills Baptist Church has the right program for you. 

is offering a 12-week program called “Run for God” that combines a weekly Bible study with group training sessions to prepare participants to run a 5k (3.1 mile) or 8k (5 mile) road race, according to a release. 

“Run for God” is for beginners so no experience is required.

Those completing the program will run or walk in a local race on Nov. 3 or Nov. 17.    

Individuals participating in the 8k race will complete the Governor's Cup 8k race on Saturday, Nov. 3. Those participating in the 5k, will complete the Runway Run 5k on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Bible study will be held for one hour on Sundays at 4:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 26. The sessions will be held at the church located at 201 Lake Murray Boulevard.

Through the Bible study sessions, participants will learn the parallels between endurance running and the endurance required by one’s faith, according to the release. 

The program also consists of two additional sessions — a session on Tuesday nights and on Saturday mornings. Participants will train at the church each week with the support of their group. 

The program also includes a new 5k fitness walking component.

Adults and children in grade 7 and older, who are accompanied by a parent, can participate. 

Child care will be provided at the Sunday and Tuesday sessions. 

The cost of the program is $75 program, which includes a book, two race shirts and entry into a 5k or 8k road race.
