School Bomb Threat a Hoax

Irmo Middle School administrators were notified by a student this morning that she received a message Thursday evening that there would be a bomb on a bus. One student suspended.

A bomb threat hoax this morning at Irmo Middle School has led to one student being suspended, according to Lexington-Richland 5 officials.

Buddy Price, the district's director of community services, said Friday morning school administrators were notified by a student that she received a message Thursday evening that there would be a bomb on a bus.

The school immediately notified local law enforcement and district officials.

The bus, which had dropped students off at the school, was moved away from the school at a safe distant and was checked by Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies.

No explosives were found and the bus was cleared.

Administrators located the Irmo Middle student who made the threat, Price said.

According to the district’s Code of Conduct policy, making a bomb threat is a Category 1 offense and will result in an immediate suspension pending a possible recommendation for expulsion from school.

The school continued to operate as normal and there was no school lockdown.
